Wedding Dress Lending Program

If you need a wedding gown:

Anyone wishing to take a dress needs to make an appointment with the director. Email to make an appointment. You do NOT need a library card and you do NOT need to live in Fair Lawn.

  • Dresses are one per bride

  • We do lend dresses for costumes, film shoots, plays, etc. We have wedding gowns from the 1930s - present. Most of our vintage gowns are small sizes, ranging from 0-6.

  • Yes, you can alter the dress to fit you.

  • Keep an open mind when trying a dress .That 80s dress might look fantastic if you remove the sleeves & bows. Changing a neckline or sleeve is much less expensive than buying a new dress. Many of our vintage dresses are perfect for weddings that require a more modest dress.

  • Some of the dresses come with accessories like veils and slips, but not all.

  • When you come to try on, try to bring shoes in the heel height that you will be wearing. Don't wear makeup that will stain the dress.

If you wish to donate a dress:

We have limited room and are currently only accepting dresses size 14 and above. Please email Adele at if you are interested in donating a dress and she will let you know if we have room to accept the donation.

  • Dresses have to be in wearable condition. Please open your preservation box and check the dress to make sure that it isn't stained.

  • Donations are accepted with the understanding that they become the Library’s property and as such may be given to a bride or discarded at the Library’s discretion.

  • The donor is responsible for the delivery of dress donations to the Library. Deliveries should be coordinated in advance for receipt during regular business hours. Library employees are unable to pick up donations off campus.
