Homework Help

Does homework give you headaches?  We are here to help! Members of the Fair Lawn High School National Honor Society will be on-hand to answer all your questions.  Bring whatever you are working on. 

After School Specials

Tuesdays, October 8-December 17     Cancelled Nov. 5

4:00-4:45 pm                                          Grades K-2

Chill out after school with stories, games, crafts and surprise visitors. October will feature community helpers and November will explore the world of animals.  

Lego Club

Select Thursdays           Oct. 24 & Nov. 7

Kids are invited to come & join other Lego enthusiasts to build using the library's massive Lego collection.

Dungeons & Dragons Club

Play D&D with other enthusiasts.  You provide the imagination, we'll provide the dice!

Book Discussion Groups 

Register in the Children's Department

All book club members read the same book and meet monthly for a discussion.  Titles are available for check-out at the circulation desk.  Actual dates will be emailed upon request 

The Chapter Club Grades 2 & 3*

One monthly meeting Thursday from 4-5 pm

Readers Rock Grades 3* & 4

One monthly meeting Thursday from 4-5 pm

The Bookworm Club  Grades 5 & 6 

One monthly meeting Mondays from 7:15-8:15 pm

*3rd graders can choose between the Chapter Club or Readers Rock based on reading level.

October/November Activities

Butter Making

Saturday, October 12  3:00-4:00 pm

All Ages

Families will enjoy cow stories and then make real butter, followed by a snack to test out our efforts.  

No registration required

Pumpkin Decorating

Thursday, October 17  7-8:00 pm

All Ages

BYOP (Bring your own pumpkin) to the library to turn into a beautiful creation.  Families are invited to work together to create their masterpieces using library supplies. Registration required

Haunted Library

Friday, October 25  7:00-8:00 pm

All Ages

Fair Lawn families of all ages are invited to join us after library hours for a night of Halloween activities.  We will use the entire building to play games, make crafts and have not-so-spooky fun!  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  Costumes are encourage.  No registration required.

Halloween Hauntings

Wednesday, October 30  7:00-8:00 pm

Grades 3-6

Join us for a night full of fright.  Learn the history of haunted places found in NJ and then take a spooky ghost tour of the library late at night!  No registration required.

Discovering Dia de los Muertos

Friday, November 1  3:30-4:30 pm

Grades K-Up

Learn about the Latin-American "Day of the Dead" with games, crafts and fun!  

No registration is required.

Dia de los Muertos Escape Room 

Saturday, November 2  2:30-4:30 pm

Grades 3-6

Do you have what it takes to escape the Day of the Dead?  Three 30 minute time slots will be offered.  Registration is required.

Diwali Celebration

Sunday, November 3  3:00-4:00 pm 

All Ages

Celebrate the Indian "festival of lights" and learn more about this important holiday with crafts, games and fun!  

No registration is required.

Frozen Fun

Friday, November 8 1:30-4:00 pm

Grades K-Up

Looking for something to do during Teacher's Convention?  Tired of waiting for the release of Frozen 2?  "Let it Go" by heading to the library for a showing of Frozen with a related activity to follow.  

No registration is required.

Thanksgiving Mural

Sunday, November 10  2:00-4:00 pm

All Ages

What are you thankful for?  Let the world know by dropping in any time withing the 2 scheduled hours and helping us to create a cool & colorful thankfulness display.

NANO Write's Workshop

Saturday, November 16  2:30-3:30 pm

Grades 3-6

Calling all aspiring authors!  Celebrate National Novel Writing Month with a workshop that will get your story ideas flowing.  No experience necessary and no registration required.

Children's Book Swap

Drop off books in the Children's Department during library hours and the designated dates below and receive "book bucks" for every book you bring in.  Bring your book bucks to the swap and spend them on "new" books.  Paperbacks & board books can be purchased for one book buck, while hardcovers are worth two.  Children's books in good condition only, please!
